When conceived, these cameras were meant to commemorate Japan’s Golden Week, a time for celebrating Japanese culture and taking a well-earned rest from work. After the natural disasters of 2011, the cameras were taken on a whole new meaning; they became a way to help the community to recover from the damages caused by the earthquake and tsunami. With the purchase of a camera, you were contributing to the donation of EUR 20,000 to the Red Cross Relief Japan campaign.

The inspiration for this edition were the Japanese tenuguis and vintage Kimonos. Taking their craftsmanship approach and immaculate textile print design, we chose a calm and light color to celebrate the welcoming of the spring. The graphics covering the camera bodies, were printed with metallic Pantone on natural raw canvas. We used the same fabric to bind the books and the same metallic tones for the front/end book papers.

The Diana Mini “Jiyu” symbolizes freedom and has a delicate charm with its floral design and clean colours. It uses 35mm film and produces beautiful square or half-frame photos.

The Diana F+ “Kirameki” sparkles with its intricate design and calming colours. This medium-format camera promises dreamy square photos and unlimited creative options when paired with Diana accessories.

The Fisheye 2 “Shiawase” symbolizes the spreading of happiness and produces shots in a 170-degree radius – Your subject is captured in a fun, compact circle in each 35mm print.

I worked on the creative direction, concept and product design management; including product, packaging, book design, add-on materials and worldwide online, retail and wholesale launches.

The Japan Golden Week edition cameras, including its packaging, are a product of the Lomographic Society International. They have been developed by the in-house design team.
